CAP - Computerized Assessment of Proficiency
An individual does not need to have ACT/SAT scores to be admitted to Mountwest Community & Technical College. New students must take the CAP unless they are transferring in Math and/or English Credits from an accredited college.
The results of the assessment are used by academic advisors and counselors to determine your course selection.
You cannot "pass" or "fail" the placement tests, but it is very important that you do your very best on these tests so that you will have a correct measure of your academic skills.
The CAP insures correct placement in Mathematics, English, and Reading. The CAP consists of Math, which is mostly algebra, English, which is an essay, and Reading, which focuses on reading comprehension.
There is $10.00 fee for each test or $25.00 for all three.
Tests are offered Monday and Wednesday 8:30am-10:00am in Room 242 by appointment only.
You may visit the Accuplacer website for samples of the questions on the assessment. http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/accuplacer/preparation-sample.html
You may also visit the Student Services office or the Peer Coach office Room 233 for additional information on the assessment or simply call (304) 710-3060 to schedule an appointment to take the CAP.
